Nevesbu contributes to life extension program HNLMS Rotterdam

Nevesbu contributes to life extension program HNLMS Rotterdam May 2018 - For HNLMS Rotterdam, 2018 will be a year of major maintenance and upkeep work. The ship is currently docked at Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam, where a sizable part of the work is being performed. Nevesbu supports DMI, the maintenance organisation of the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN), in the engineering for the ship’s systems integration.

HNLMS Rotterdam, commissioned in 1998, is the RNLN’s first amphibious transport vessel (also referred to as a Landing Platform Dock). Its main purpose is to support amphibious operations in nearshore areas. Last December, HNLMS Rotterdam returned from anti-piracy operation Atalanta off the coast of Somalia, and earlier the ship was deployed in operation Sophia, one of the missions targeting human smuggling networks.

The servicing programme involves upgrades for a number of detection and communication systems to ensure their compliance with the latest state of the art. Nevesbu will take care of the engineering for the integration of this new, so-called SEWACO (sensor, armament and command) equipment in the ship and will provide a detailed design for adapting its two masts to enable the installation of new antennas.
